Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada on Friday said that a total number of 1,102 suspects were arrested in connection with 705 reported cases in 2022.
Also, 989 arrested suspects are undergoing prosecution in various competent Courts of Law in the State, 177 suspected Armed robbers were arrested and 169 suspects were charged to court while eight cases are under investigation.
CP Nadada who gave his 2022 scorecard said that it has been a most challenging period for the Command but have been able to deal with all the intractable hiccups.
While briefing the press in Katsina on Friday, being the last for the year, revealed that the command has made tremendous successes against the menace of banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of crime and criminality in the state.
“The year 2022 saw a reduction in the crime rate in the state as compared with the previous year. I thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, for his tremendous support to the Command, without which these major successes wouldn’t have been achieved.
While commending the gallant personnel for their dexterity, he regretted the loss of one of its best commanders in the fight against terrorism in the state, Area Commander, Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar, and four others and many more who suffered different degrees of injuries in the cause of the fight against criminals.
He warned terrorists and their collaborators or informants to either surrender or be dealt with according to the extant laws of the land.
Also, 241 suspected bandits, kidnappers, and informants to bandits, were arrested. Among them, 239 suspects have been charged to court while 16 suspects are under investigation.
In the course of this campaign, 54 bandits were neutralized in various gun battles while five police officers paid the supreme price.
CP Nadada also pointed out that the command did well-tackling animal rust melers as 1,092 domestic animals were recovered, which consisted of 727 cows, 370 sheep, and goats were recovered from the hoodlums.
266 suspects were arrested in 245 reported cases of rape and unnatural offences; in which 260 suspects have been charged to court and six suspects are undergoing investigation.
Similarly, 46 victims of Human Trafficking were rescued in four reported cases, and such cases have been transferred to the NAPTIP office for further investigation.
122 kidnapped victims were also rescued from suspected bandits/kidnappers during the period under review. 22 suspected stolen motor vehicles were recovered and 18 stolen/bandits’ motorcycles were recovered. 27 thieves who specialize in motor vehicles thief were arrested and have been charged to court.
Among them, 71 suspected vandals were arrested and a large amount of cable wire/other electrical items were recovered. They have been charged to court for prosecution.
On drug use and trafficking, 21 suspected Indian Hemp/illicit drugs traffickers and suppliers to bandits were arrested and large quantities of illicit drugs such as Pentazocine injections, Tramadol, etc, and substances such as Jerricans loaded with “SUCK and DIE” Solution, Rubber solution, spirits etc, and dried leaves suspected to be Canabis were recovered.
However, 19 suspects have been charged to court, and two were transferred to NDLEA for further investigation.
Exhibits recovered from them included Arms and ammunition.
14 AK 47 riffles; two locally fabricated AK 47 rifles; 19 locally made guns 81 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 rifle.
In all, CP Nadada appreciated the press for their immense cooperation and partnership with the command.
“You have honestly and avidly displayed fraternity and collaboration towards strengthening the relative peace and security in the state through your fair and balanced reportage of the Command activities.
“The fight against crime and criminality is so dynamic and not an easy one but I urge you to continue to project the hard and good work of the Police and other security agencies to the general public.
In addition, he commended other sister security agencies in the fight against terrorism and other crimes in the state.
