Disturbed by the bravery effrontery of kidnappers to seize law abiding citizens and force their relatives to part with huge sums of money as compensation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division of Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 3 Operation Fansan Yama, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, on Thursday, 9th October, 2025, led some troops into the bush to rescue some kidnapped victims in Kwara State.
A visit to Patrol Base at Babanla, during the operation led by the GOC and troops of the Base, culminated in an advance towards Babasango Forest, where they rescued two kidnapped victims, a male and a female.
Disclosing this in Ibadan, capital of Oyo state, in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 2 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, explained that it had become expedient for the GOC to embark on the operation.

He said that Maj Gen. Nnebeife also visited the Onidofin of Idofin, Oba Pius Oluwole, following the bandits’ attack on traders at Olegbede Village, about 12km from Idofin Ayekale where three persons were killed, following a bandit attack close to Idofin in Ayekale Village of Omu–Aran local government area of Kwara State.
It was also learnt that Oba Oluwole attributed the attack on his community to its proximity to Babasango Forest.
The GOC, therefore, condoled with the royal father and assured him that the Nigerian Army would sustain operations to flush out bandits and other criminal elements from the entire forest.
