It was a bumper harvest for men of the Katsina State Police Command led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Batsari Division in “Operation Puff Adder” and “Sharan Daji” to Zamfarawa village Batsari LGA of Katsina state where they neutralised some bandits.
Police said they had worked on credible information that bandits numbering over 40, armed with AK47 rifles, were shooting sporadically as they attacked the village, killing in the process a 65-year-old Shafi’i Suleiman, and Yakubu Idris, 70, while unspecified number of cows was rustled.
Confirming the dastardly act of the criminals on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Katsina State Command, SP Gambo Isah said that the police team was ambushed by the bandits on their way into the village.
Consequently, the team responded and instantly killed one of the hoodlums while others escaped into the forest with bullet wounds.
Explaining further, he stated that, “The team succeeded and recovered 30 cows stolen from the village by the bandits.”
“Subsequently, on August 7, 2020, search parties led by the DPO and members of the community with the village Head of Zamfarawa recovered additional seven more corpses of the bandits at Barankada village, Batsari LGA of Katsina state.
“The sum of twenty two thousand and three hundred Naira (N22,300), 13 empty shells and two live ammunition of 7.62mm, bunch of criminal charms, keys and pair of slippers were recovered from the dead bodies and the scene respectively during search.”
SP Gambo added that investigations were still ongoing.
