45 YEARS OF AFMS: CAS UNVEILS NEW EDUCATION DRIVE AT JOINT POP

Admin July 27, 2025
45 Years Of AFMS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) unwavering commitment to youth development and quality education during the Joint Passing Out Parade of the Air Force Military School (AFMS) and Air Force Girls Military School (AFGMS) in Jos.

Disclosing this in Abuja on Sunday, 27th July, 2025, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Nigerian Air Force said that the event was held in honour of the graduating class, also marked the 45th anniversary of AFMS, a milestone the Air Chief described as “a testament to the vision, resilience, and impact of this great institution.”

Air Marshal Abubakar, who once served as an instructor at AFMS nearly three decades ago, expressed deep pride in returning as Chief of the Air Staff. “That experience shaped my perspective on youth development, discipline, and the role of military-style education in grooming future leaders,” he said.

“These values remain just as relevant today as they were in the past.” Since its founding in 1980, AFMS has graduated over 6,200 students, many of whom have gone on to excel in the military, public service, academia, and industry both locally and internationally.

The CAS praised alumni for their continued support, noting that “the AFMS Alumni Association has executed numerous impactful projects in support of the school, a noble gesture that speaks volumes about their enduring commitment to service and legacy.”

Highlighting NAF’s growing reputation in education, the Air Chief stated, “Nigerian Air Force primary and secondary schools are some of the most competitive and highly sought-after across Nigeria. This is not a coincidence but the result of carefully implemented policies to ensure the highest standards.”

He revealed that the NAF has recently established new schools in Abuja, Igbara-Oke, and Kaduna, and is working to integrate all NAFOWA-owned schools into a unified system. Additionally, renovation efforts are underway across several institutions, with AFMS set to benefit from major upgrades, including improved feeding systems and clean water access for students.

In a significant development, the CAS announced the revival of the programme to absorb Ex-Junior Airmen and Airwomen into the NAF, offering graduates of both military schools a direct pathway into military service after further basic training.

“This initiative strengthens our human capital base and preserves the military ethos instilled in these young boys and girls,” he said. Turning to the graduates, he commended their turnout, discipline, and precision in drill displays. “You are the future of Nigeria,” the CAS declared. “Lead with purpose, serve with dignity, and never stop learning.”

He also extended gratitude to the schools’ leadership, staff, teachers, and instructors for their dedication. “Your commitment has not gone unnoticed,” he noted. In closing, Air Marshal Abubakar praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of youth development and military education. “Under his visionary leadership, we have witnessed renewed vigour in the pursuit of excellence across all sectors, including education,” he stated.

“The greatness of any nation,” the CAS concluded, “lies not only in its weapons but in the quality of its people.”

The colourful ceremony reached its climax with breathtaking parades and a file past by the graduating students, drawing thunderous applause from the audience. The event was witnessed by senior military officers, parents, family members, members of Ex-JAM and Ex-JAW as well as other well-wishers who came to celebrate the achievements of the young graduates.

Their presence added a vibrant and emotional touch to the occasion, underscoring the pride and hope that the AFMS and AFGMS continue to inspire after years of shaping future leaders.
