As part of a sustained effort to safeguard lives, properties, and promote peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in Taraba State, the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has conducted an operational visit to Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The visit which took place on Tuesday, 5th August 2025, centred on a peace dialogue involving representatives of the Fulani, Bandawa, Munga Lelau and Munga Dosso communities and was held at the Karim Lamido LGA Secretariat.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders including community elders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

The engagement followed a peace accord earlier signed on 30th June 2025, which had recently been breached by some factions.

In response, Brigadier General Uwa proactively re-engaged the parties in a renewed effort to restore trust, address grievances, and prevent a relapse into violence.

In his remarks, the Brigade Commander emphasised unity, dialogue, and collective responsibility in addressing the underlying security challenges.

He urged all parties to set aside differences and embrace honest, open, and constructive engagement.

Condemning the cycle of violence, he warned against individuals or groups taking the law into their own hands. “We must all embrace peace and work together to restore harmony in our communities,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Karim Lamido LGA, Hon. Birtrus Dan Jos, commended Brigadier General Uwa for his unwavering dedication to peacebuilding, particularly noting his physical presence despite poor road conditions from Jalingo.

“His commitment reflects the Nigerian Army’s genuine interest in community welfare and stability,” the Chairman stated.

The dialogue concluded with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to the original peace accord.

Some of the Resolutions reached included: Sustaining continuous dialogue among community members; Supporting ongoing peace-building initiatives; Refraining from harbouring criminal elements and cooperating fully with security agencies in addressing threats.

In a statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Mohummad quoted Brigadier General Uwa reaffirming the Nigerian Army commitment to fostering mutual understanding and promoting lasting peace across Taraba State.
