81 Division, Nigerian Army has disclosed the arrest of several criminal gangs following series of operations that targeted suspects linked to kidnapping, theft, and vandalism.
Revealing this on Monday in a statement in Lagos, Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Lieutenant Colonel, who is the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of the division explained that to maintain the peace and tranquility in its Area of Responsibility (AOR), troops of 81 Division acting on actionable intelligence successfully conducted series of operations across all fronts within the week around Lagos and Ogun States.
According to him, notable among those arrested was a suspected kidnapper, identified as Usman Abubakar, a 27-year-old from Badudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Abubakar was apprehended while traveling from Benin, Edo State, to Epe, Lagos State. The suspect has been transferred to Benin for further investigation.
Also, the troops apprehended 32-year-old Uche Kehinde Akwari at Elegushi Beach in Lagos while stealing building materials.
In a related incident, a group of nine suspects, all hailing from Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, were also arrested at Bonny Cantonment Mammy Market for vandalizing and stealing bold spikes attached to floating buoys belonging to the NNPC Atlas Curve Company.
The suspects include Mr Sabiu Hashimu 20-year- old , Mr Fahadu Maaru 22- year- old, Mr Muhammed Salaudeen 18- year-old, Mr Samaila Abubakar 20-year-old, Mr Abdul Ahmadu 19-year-old, Mrs Nasiru Shuiabu 19-year-old, Mr Tanko Sani 20-year-old, Mr Safiyanu Madi 18-year-old and Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi 21-year-old.
The suspects have been handed over to appropriate security agencies for further investigations.
The operations which were carried out through a combination of foot and vehicle patrols, demonstrating the troops’ commitment to disrupting criminal activities in the Division’s AOR reflect the Division’s renewed efforts to maintain peace and security while ensuring a safer environment for residents in its AOR.
While appreciating the public for their support for their dexterity and proactivity, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, he urged citizens to continue to provide actionable intelligence that would help troops to take out criminal elements that might want to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed in Lagos and Ogun states.
He further commended the troops for their professionalism and unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of communities in Lagos and Ogun States.
