82 DIVISION LAUNCHES PROBE INTO SOLDIERS’ CLASH WITH CIVILIAN IN NSUKKA

The 82 Division Nigerian Army has disclosed that an investigative panel has been constituted to look at the immediate or remote cause of a clash that broke out between soldiers deployed to Igbo-Eze Local Government Area, Nsukka in Enugu State and some civilians from Nsukka -Igbo Eze South Road, Enugu state.

Disclosing this in Enugu on Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 82 Division, Nigerian Army said the army authority was attracted through a recent social media video of the encounter.

“The incident occurred during a routine security check. While such checks are crucial to enhancing security, the Division takes all reports of misconduct by its personnel seriously,” Lt Col Ayeni further disclosed.

As a result, he reiterated, the division has instituted a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident, adding that the outcome will be made public on completion.

He affirmed that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with military regulations if the personnel are established guilty.

While assuring the public of discharging its constitutional mandate through professionalism as well as strict adherence to the existing Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct, the Division remains committed to transparency and accountability in its operations for the fostering of positive civil-military relations.

He thanked the public for their vigilance and the media’s role in bringing the issue to our attention.
