The 48th Commander of 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, has assumed office on Wednesday, 21st August 2024 at Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos State.
The new commander, Brigadier General Olawale Matthew Oyekola before his appointment was Chief of Staff at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI.
The Handing and Taking Over Ceremony between the immediate past Commander, Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi, and successor was held at the Headquarters, 9 Brigade Conference Room, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos.
The outgone Commander, in his farewell remarks to the officers and soldiers expressed mixed emotions sighting the various remarkable achievements during his tenure. He noted with satisfaction the high level of discipline, dedication, and commitment displayed by the troops while being the Commander.
He acknowledged that all his successes were due to the cooperation and support he received from everyone and therefore urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor to drive the Brigade and Nigerian Army forward.
On his part, Brigadier General Matthew Oyekola appreciated the Chief of Army Staff for his appointment as the Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army while at the same time, praised Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi for his notable achievements, particularly the facelift he gave the brigade.
He assured the troops that he would build on the progress made by his predecessor and promised to sustain the drive for greater achievements. He solicited the support of the officers and urged them to be ready and fully committed to his vision for 9 Brigade.
The event featured the signing of handover notes, decoration of the newly appointed Commander with 9 Brigade Badge Insignia and accoutrements, handing over of the 9 Brigade Flag.
