The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has applauded over 50,000 gallant officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for missing their families and loved ones during the coming Christmas and a Happy New Year in person due to deployments.
While commending the troops for their unflinching commitment to the defence of the country, expressed gratitude to the gallant troops for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice in ensuring the safety and security of our great Nation.
In his Christmas goodwill message by himself, the army Chief expressed concern that “not because they do not want to but because they will be on duty across difficult-to-access towns, villages, and hamlets across the Country and beyond.
“They are duty bound to stand on guard while other families rejoice and celebrate together, sometimes not knowing how similar celebrations are going on in their families. To these gallant warriors, I say thank you for your sacrifice and dedication to duty.”
Lt Gen Lagbaja, however, disclosed that in the coming year, the Nigerian Army would be expecting the delivery of its helicopters and other combat enablers that will see a better security environment develop across the Country.
Just as he added that the Army Headquarters has initiated several welfare projects that would directly impact the lives of soldiers and their families.
“Your well-being is of utmost importance, and we shall continue to work tirelessly to provide you with the necessary resources and support to carry out your duties effectively.”
The army boss noted that he wasn’t oblivious that the force was constantly confronted by some challenges but would strive to fulfill their constitutional obligations that are surmountable.
He acknowledged the support from the executive and legislative arms of government, adding that the Army Headquarters will be able to boost the physical, moral, and conceptual components of our fighting power toward becoming a more efficient force.
Part of the statement read, “As Chief of Army Staff, I desire to return our troops home to their families and loved ones safely. To this end, we look forward to creating a more stable condition that will allow for a drawdown in the strength of troops deployed on Internal Security duties across the Country.
“We shall endeavour to help build capacity in statutory security agencies to take charge of our internal security effectively. At the same time, we hope to recalibrate our efforts towards our primary constitutional duty of ensuring our territorial integrity.
“We aim to work with Sister Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to create and maintain a peaceful, safe, and secure environment for economic activities to thrive.
“As we celebrate this festive season, I urge you to spend time with your comrades, share joyful moments and heartfelt conversations, and find solace in the camaraderie that binds us together as a formidable force.
“Remember, you are not alone in this fight to maintain the beacons of our unity. The entire nation stands with you, supporting you in every step to defeating our adversaries and having a peaceful Nigeria,” Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja reiterated.
