As the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) leadership conference kicks off in Kigali later this week, more distinguished African personalities will be honoured during the event.
Prominent among such personalities is the former President of Zambia, His Excellency, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who will be honoured as UNIPGC Icon of Peace and Patron, Executive Governing Council of Chartered Institute of Peace and Governance (CIPG), United States of America awards.
Also, the immediate past Attorney General of Zambia, Likando Kalaluka who is being honoured for his Leadership Excellence and Outstanding African Arbitrator/ADR Personality of the Year 2024.
The investiture will take place during the 13th Edition of Pan African Leadership Symposium and Honours (PALESH KIGALI 2024), on Friday, 8th March, 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda.
In a statement by the Event Steering Committee, disclosed that former President Lungu deserves the honour as a pre-eminent African leader who has demonstrated the capacity to receive the International SDG Peace Leadership Excellence Award.
Edgar Lungu will, at the occasion after his award, give a Keynote speech on the Theme of the event: “Peace Leadership and Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms for Emerging Conflicts in Africa.”
However, in his nomination letter made available to our correspondent stated that “Your Selection for this honour as an ICON of PEACE under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG Agenda 16) Peace, Justice and strong Institutions is in recognition of your patriotism and boldness in delivering a transparent and inclusive leadership process.
“We recognize your patriotism in the peaceful transfer and transition of Power to your successor H.E Hichelema Hakainde, who is the current President of Zambia.
“This award is in celebration and honour of your efforts towards prioritizing Sustainable Peaceful Co-existence, Reconciliation and this legacy is worthy of emulation.
“It is our strong belief and bold submission that the peace and stability of our African nations galvanizes and secures opportunities of sustainable development, trade and investment,” the statement added.
SDG Peace Leadership Excellence Award aims to recognize personalities who have contributed positively to Peace Dialogues/ Conflict resolutions, grassroots community development, and massive youth and women capacity building while uniting leaders who have a strong passion for humanity and serving as catalysts of social change in the society.
