The new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, has taken over office.
He is Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose. He took over Command from Major General Godwin Mutkut, who has been redeployed to Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre and appointed Director of Military Technology.
The new GOC, Brig Gen Ajose, who was until his appointment, the Director of Administration at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, assumed office on Friday after a colourful brief ceremony of handing and taking over notes which witnessed the official handing over of the Division’s flag and the Quarter Guard parade at the Division’s Headquarters, Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto.
As the GOC, Brig Gen Ajose also becomes the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI Commander.
Earlier, in his farewell address to the troops at the 26 Battalion Parade Ground, Giginya Barracks, Major General Mutkut commended officers and soldiers of the Division for their robust cooperation throughout his tenure of command. He implored them to remain loyal, and disciplined and extend the same commitment to duty and support to his predecessor.
In a statement, the acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Shittu Ibrahim further disclosed that the new GOC, Brigadier General Ajose, commended his predecessor for his track record while seeking his continuous guidance.
As part of his cardinal objective, he expressed his willingness to work with all officers and soldiers to have lasting peace and stability within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
