In a gesture of respect and appreciation, Major General Abdullahi Maikano, the President of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), along with Air Vice Marshal T.A. Marquez, the Director of Defense Sports at the Defense Headquarters have paid a courtesy visit on Major General Ishola Williams (retd), the founder of OSMA.
The visit took place on Monday, 12th August, 2024 with focus on discussing preparations for the upcoming African Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
At the occasion, Major General Maikano, who also serves as the CISM Vice President for Africa, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the pioneering work of Major General Williams in establishing OSMA, which has played a crucial role in promoting sports and camaraderie among the military forces across the African continent.
In his words, Major General Maikano said, “It was an honour to visit Major General Ishola Williams, the visionary founder of OSMA, whose dedication and leadership have been instrumental in creating a platform for military athletes to showcase their talents and foster deeper connections between our nations.”
They went further to brief General Williams about the ongoing preparations for the African Military Games, an event that showcases the athletic prowess and sportsmanship of the continent’s armed forces.
Major General Williams, who has been a driving force behind the growth and success of OSMA, welcomed and thanked them for the visit and expressed his continued commitment to supporting the organization’s initiatives.
Speaking further, he said, “the African Military Games are an important platform for promoting unity, friendship, and healthy competition among our military personnel. I am pleased to see the continued efforts of OSMA and its leadership in ensuring the success of this prestigious event.”
