Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 81 Division Chapter, has held a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme themed: “No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone,” in Lagos.
It was held on Saturday, 26 October 2024, at 65 Battalion Officers’ Mess, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos
The event featured a 3-kilometre walk from 65 Battalion to Adeola Odeku axis in Victoria Island, Lagos and gave opportunities for participants to engage medical professionals during which they were acquainted with vital information and advice on prevention and care of the deadly disease.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson, 81 Division NAOWA, Mrs Zainab Aliyu Farouk Mijinyawa, expressed her gratitude to attendees for joining the fight against what she described as a serious health issue.
She noted that breast cancer is not merely an illness but a journey that requires the support of family and the community at large. She encouraged everyone to stand together and ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone by reinforcing the spirit of unity in the battle against the disease.
In her lecture titled: “Understanding Breast Cancer: The Importance of Early Detection, Treatment Options, and Risk Factors,” Maj AP Shima from 81 Division Hospital educated participants on types of breast cancer, the associated risk factors, signs, symptoms, and the critical importance of self-examination which according to her would ensure early detection.
She further asserted that no one would die from breast cancer if detected and treated promptly.
