The remains of the late former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja were on Thursday morning flown from Lagos to Abuja where he would be committed to mother earth tomorrow, Friday, 15th November, 2024 at the National Military Cemetery.
The body of the late COAS had arrived at the Air Force Wing, Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja Lagos, about 9:25am and was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa and other senior military officer, Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr Obafemi Hamzat paramilitary organisations, traditional rulers and members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA).
In a brief funeral procession at the airport to pay their last respect to a departed gallant military boss, who fought terrorists at various theatres of war before and during his time as the COAS, the Deputy Governor and senior officers from different security agencies, followed the pallbearer as the Army band in solemn manner rendered funeral song while the casket bearing Lt Gen Lagbaja’s remains was wheeled towards the Charlie 130 military aircraft.
Earlier, the National Anthem were rendered as his casket draped in Nigeria Flag decorated with his boots and ceremonial cap was wheeled through a detachment of Guard of Honour while senior military officers followed behind into the waiting Charlie 130, NAF 198 aircraft.
As the NAF 198 aircraft taxed off the tarmac amidst wailing by both officers, members of NAOWA and NASWA, a salute from over 140 men on parade was heralded as a befitting final tribute to the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who died on 5th November, 2024 at the age of 56 years in Lagos.
