The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) marked International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, with a remarkable event celebrating women’s achievements and contributions to society.
The gathering, held at the POWA Secretariat in Jabi, brought together Police officers’ wives, senior female Police officers, and students from various POWA schools across the FCT.
The event was chaired by the FCT POWA Chairperson, Mrs. Disu Mutiat Olufunmilola, who was represented by Mrs. Veronica Iwodi, wife of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, FCT Police Command.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairperson, Mrs. Disu Mutiat Olufunmilola, Mrs. Veronica Iwodi encouraged all women, particularly those in challenging and demanding professions such as security and law enforcement.
She said, “To every woman breaking barriers, juggling responsibilities, and standing strong in the face of adversity—your strength is the foundation upon which families, communities, and nations are built.
“In demanding professions like security and law enforcement, where the stakes are high and sacrifices are great, your resilience and dedication inspire generations. Keep pushing forward, knowing that your contributions are invaluable and your potential limitless.”

During the celebration, inspiring speeches were also delivered by senior female Police officers, including ACP Ifeyinwa Ndibe and CSP Esther Ogunfowora, who shared insights on balancing law enforcement careers with family and personal responsibilities. They emphasized resilience, self-care, and the importance of support systems in navigating work-life balance.
Their discussions highlighted the crucial role women play in shaping the future of policing while also supporting the professional and personal growth of their spouses.
The celebration concluded on a joyful note with a musical performance by the Police Live Band, entertaining attendees and reinforcing the spirit of unity and empowerment as contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, Abuja, SP Josephine Adeh.
