
…AS MILITARY SECRETARY (ARMY) INAUGURATES BOARD
Nigerian Army has begun the screening of 455 officers from Short Service Commission (SSC) and Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) to Regular Combatant (RC) and Direct Regular Commission (DRC) status respectively.
As a result, the Military Secretary (Army) (MS (A), Major General Everest Okoro, has inaugurated the board members of the Conversion Board for Nigerian Army Officers 2025 at the Headquarters, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In his remarks, Major General Okoro congratulated the Board President and board members on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for their appointment to serve on the Conversion Board for NA Officers 2025.
He stated that their selection was based on each member’s competence and integrity throughout their career but charged the board members to uphold high standards and to exert their best efforts to ensure the success of the conversion exercise.
The MS (A) who was represented by the Board Coordinator, Colonel Francis Obiajulu noted that the conversion exercise is a periodic initiative by the NA that provides Short Service Commission (SSC) and Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) officers the opportunity to convert to Regular Combatant (RC) and Direct Regular Commission (DRC) status, respectively.
He further mentioned that, before the commencement of the exercise, a two-week cadre organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Training was conducted in line with the COAS directive and concluded on 9th May 2025.

This cadre was designed to prepare the officers and equip them with the necessary tools to succeed during the board.
He urged the board members to maintain the sanctity and integrity of the exercise and to ensure that only the best officers, those fit for higher responsibilities, are recommended for conversion.
Similarly, the Board President and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division NA, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, in his address to the candidates, welcomed them to the 81 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), particularly, 35 Artillery Brigade Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta.
He stated that the Conversion Board is a crucial panel convened by the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, to screen candidates and recommend those who satisfy the requirements for conversion from SSC to RC as well as from DSSC to DRC, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service for Officers 2024.
He further explained that the candidates would be assessed in the areas of medical screening, the Physical Efficiency Test, an aptitude test, weapons handling, and their overall appearance before the Board.
The Board President charged the candidates to perform at their best, emphasising that their assessment would reflect their true capabilities.
