Nigerian Airforce Base, Kano has received a state-of-the-art Trauma Centre, an Eye Centre, two blocks of Officers’ Accommodation, and a newly constructed Office Complex for the Military Airport Commandant.

These critical landmark facilities were commissioned as part of the 61st anniversary celebrations of the force.

This was disclosed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), in Abuja.

He explained that the commissioning ceremony was graced by top dignitaries, symbolized NAF’s enduring commitment to the welfare, operational readiness, and professional excellence of its personnel.

The event also honoured the legacy of former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar (Retired), a revered elder statesman whose name will now adorn the newly commissioned Trauma Centre.

In his remarks, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar said that “This life-saving facility stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the contributions of our heroes. It is a reminder that their service continues to inspire future generations to serve with courage, honour, and commitment.”

According to the CAS, the trauma and Eye Centres are strategic additions to the NAF’s growing medical capacity. They aim to provide rapid and quality care for wounded personnel, armed forces members, and surrounding communities.

“The Eye Centre, in particular, addresses the growing need for preventive and curative eye care, to reduce avoidable vision impairment among NAF personnel”, he added.

Addressing another long-standing challenge, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar noted that “two newly completed blocks of Officers’ Accommodation which were unveiled, will significantly improve the living standards of our personnel in Kano.

“While the Military Airport Commandant’s Office Complex, which was also inaugurated, is designed to enhance coordination of air defence, airport security, and VIP protocols at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

“These projects are part of a broader strategy to transform the Nigerian Air Force into a modern, agile, and resilient force capable of meeting the airpower demands of Nigeria’s national security objectives in all operational environments”, added.

Commending the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said his support for the Nigerian Air Force would continue to provide the enabling foundation for such transformative progress.

He also extended his appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, the Kano State Government, traditional institutions, and host communities for their continued cooperation and support.

To the men and women of the Nigerian Air Force, the Chief of the Air Staff charged them to “take ownership of these facilities. Use them responsibly. Let us remain steadfast in upholding our values, integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”
