
In commemoration of the 69th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy and also to give back to host community in line with Civil-Military relations, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande on Monday, 26th May, 2025 conducted free Medical Rhapsody at the Millennium park Calabar.
The event provided an opportunity for members of the host community to access free medical services, including blood pressure checks, diabetes screening, hepatitis B and C screening, malaria testing, and free medical consultations.

The medical outreach was flagged off by the Chief Staff Officer Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral DM Ndanusa, who represented the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command.
Also in attendance were the Fleet Commander Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral KO Oguntuga, Principal Staff Officers of the Command , Commander Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Senior Officers, Officers and men of Eastern Naval Command Calabar area.

During the programme, in addition to medical services, beneficiaries received free medications, glasses, toothbrushes, and toothpaste etc. Several hundreds of indigene were attended to, and they expressed with many beneficiaries expressing gratitude for the initiative.
According to the FOC, the Medical Rhapsody is aimed at improving the well-being of the host community and foster stronger ties between the command and the community, which is in consonance with the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to civil-military relations and humanitarian outreach.
