Nemesis has caught up with one Khamis Abdullahi, who claimed to be an Airforce Captain as he was arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for fraud and stealing.
Abdullahi, an ex-convict, who lives at W02 Quarters, NDA, Kaduna, was said to have on November 24, 2020 about 10:11hrs, dressed in Nigerian Airforce Uniform, bearing the name K. Abdullahi with Captain rank.
It was learnt that he had approached one Muhammadu Isah Girka, a car dealer in Alfrah Motors LTD, IBB Way, Katsina and introduced himself as Airforce Captain who had just returned from the United Kingdom and was posted to Katsina on special duty as a Pilot.
Confirming the arrest, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah explained in a statement on Monday that based on credible intelligence on December 2, 2020 about 16:00hrs, Khamis Abdullahi was arrested.
It was gathered that the suspect is notorious for defrauding and stealing from unsuspecting members of the public, using fake bank transfer alert and similar other tricks.
However, while carrying out his tricks, he confronted one Muhammadu, a car dealer and demanded to buy a Toyota Corolla S, 2016 Model, blue in colour, valued N5,400,000:00 from the car stand with the intention of coming back to pay for the vehicle.
SP Isah reiterated that on December 2, 2020 about 10:45hrs, he called the car dealer (Muhammadu) and asked they meet at First Bank, Yahaya Madawaki way, Katsina, to collect his money for the vehicle.
“In the process, the suspect deceitfully filled a bank transfer teller for the sum of N5,400,000:00, stamped with his fabricated fake stamp and asked the victim to sign.
“He later created a fake bank alert of the said amount and showed it to the victim who believe it to be true and genuine.’
It was further disclosed that after seeing the fake alert, they later proceeded to Alfra motors where the fake Captain took the vehicle and left to unknown destination.
Later, realising that all was a hoax, the victim reported the matter to the police, prompting them to swing into discreet investigation, leading to his arrest as the suspect was accosted with the stolen vehicle at Hunkuyi Junction on the highway along Danja to Zaria.
However, Khamis Abdullahi has confessed to have used the same Modus Operandi on that fateful date on another person and cunningly collected one I-Phone X valued N185,000 from one Abdulwahab, of Unguwar Alkali Quarters, Katsina which was also recovered in his possession.
Meanwhile, other items recovered from the suspect during police search included: One T-Shirt with Captain rank and UN Badge; One Toyota Corolla, 2016 Model; three I-Phone GSM handsets, and one Infinix phone.
Others are: One fabricated fake First Bank rubber stamp; Two fake stamped First Bank Tellers
Motor vehicle documents and Stamp pad.
However, Investigation has revealed that the suspect is a habitual offender and an ex-convict who has been convicted severally for similar offences in Kaduna state.
In another development, the Katsina State Police Command says that it foiled an attempted kidnapping on Monday morning.
SP Isah disclosed that on 7th December, 2020 about 04:00hrs, the Divisional Police Officer, Kankara Division, led ‘Operation Puff Adder’ to Gatakawa village, based on the report that bandits in their numbers, on motorbikes, armed with AK 47 rifles were shooting sporadically.
In the process of attacking the village, the criminals broke shops and stole food items and kidnapped 13 people in the process.
However, due to police prompt intervention, they engaged the bandits in a gun duel and dislodged the hoodlums.
In addition, the police succeeded in rescuing all the kidnapped victims and recovered all the items stolen by the bandits.
“Search parties are combing the area with a view of arresting the injured bandits and/or recover their dead bodies,” SP Isah added as investigation is continuing.
