For illegally engaging at collection of revenue in the state, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects.
They were arrested on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 by the Command Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while on patrol along MCC junction Obosi and Upper Iweka General area.
The suspects, two males and a female were identified as Paul Nnamdi Okonkwo, 40, Chukwura Ebube, 23, both of Amafor village, Nkpor and, Cynthia Agbaero of Afisiri village in Ugheli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed disclosed that the suspects claimed they were revenue collectors hired by one Hon. Innocent Offordile, who is alleged to be the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security and Chairman Enforcement and Compliance Committee.
It was further disclosed that the police authority has invited him for questioning to ascertain his level of involvement before prosecuting the suspects.
It would be recalled that the Anambra State Government had on December 7, 2020 “banned all forms of road revenue collection by persons claiming to be State revenue agents or officials and that any person who purports to be a revenue officer or agent and demands payment on any of the roads in the state should be reported immediately to the nearest law enforcement officer”.
Consequently, police and other law enforcement agencies in the state would continue to ensure strict enforcement of government decision including the banning of revenue collection on all the roads in the state.
