…made sweeping arrest, recoveries

In what appears to be a no hold bound arrest, the Katsina State Police Command has made good its promise to make the Yuletide period free of all criminals encumbrances as several criminal gangs have been arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah stated in Katsina on Thursday that it raided a criminal hideout and smashed a notorious syndicate of armed robbers terrorizing the state and recovered two stolen motor vehicles.
Among those arrested included: Abdullahi Bishir alias Atom, 22, from Kofar Sauri; Umar Sani, 22, Ibrahim Abubakar, 20yrs from Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters; Faruk Atiku, 22, from Tudun Matawalle; Auwal Abubakar, 22, from Kwado quarters; Katsina Mustapha Sada alias Dan Musty, 21, from Kwado Quarters; Katsina, Ibrahim Mu’azzam, 21; Kwado Lawal Sani alias Prosecutor, 30, from Rahamawa quarters.
Others are: Katsina Mubarak Surajo, 23, from Kwado Quarters, Katsina Musa Usman, 22, of Sabon Titin Kwado, Katsina Jamilu Sani, 22 of Jibia LGA of Katsina state; Abduljalal Balarabe, 28, Khalifa Bala, 22, of Kano and Yasir Haruna Mai Jama’a, 28, of Kano.
It was learnt that the gangs were swooped on December 17, 2020 about 18:00hrs, based on credible intelligence, an operation led by the Divisional Police Officer, GRA Police Division.
In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of several cases of house breaking and theft, armed robbery and theft of motor vehicles in the state.
Items recovered in their possession included: Two Mercedes Benz, C230, dark and blue in colour, one laptop computer, 14 different types of GSM Handset, three bed sheets, one blanket, four pillows, one centre carpet, one head rest, and the sum N21,000:00K.
Also arrested on December 12, 2020 about 11:30hrs, are the duo of one Yahaya Ibrahim, 21, of Rafin Dadi Quarters, Katsina and Salahuddeen Hamisu, 18, of Tayoyi Quarters, Katsina, known for their notoriety in dealing on Indian hemp.
It was revealed that 51 carefully sealed loaves of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them.
The suspects who have confessed to the crime, would be prosecuted on conclusion of Investigations.
However, nemesis caught up with one Muhammed Garba, 37, of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Katsina who conspired with one Surajo Mai’Akuya (now at large) and stole a motor vehicle Corolla L.E., white in colour with registration No. BS 428 KWM, valued N700,000:00K.
It was further revealed that while on their way to Kano state with the stolen vehicle, a good Samaritan who knows the owner of the vehicle saw them with the vehicle at Bichi LGA of Kano state and raised alarm leading to one of the suspect Muhammed Garba being accosted.
While trying to escape, Surajo Mai’Akuya zoomed off with the vehicle, but later abandoned it along the road and escaped to unknown destination.
In the course of investigation, one Hayatu Bishir, 33, of Masanawa Quarters, Katsina and Lawal Abdullahi, 43, Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, Katsina were arrested as accomplices in the commission of the crime.
