Katsina Police Command in the early hours Tuesday, foiled kidnapping attempts after they recovered an AK47 rifle from the criminals and killed six of them.
The incident which took place about 02:30hrs, involved about 30 bandits who shot sporadically with AK47 rifles, and attacked Lambo village, Wurma Ward, Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah who confirmed the attack said two persons were killed while 17 women and six children kidnapped were rescued without stretches.
On how they intercepted the criminals, it was learnt that personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force were alerted and they immediately blocked all their possible escape routes.
“Consequently, the teams laid siege for the hoodlums between Ummadau to Kwayawa village and engaged them in a fierce gun duel, as a result of which six of the bandits were killed, and all the 23 kidnapped victims were rescued.
In addition, 23 Cows, 20 sheep, and 31 goats including 12 motorcycles and one G3 rifle were recovered.
It was learnt that further operations are ongoing as search parties are still combing the area with a view to arresting more suspected bandits and/or recover their dead bodies.
