Barr. Esther Uzoma, the Convener, Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has died in Abuja after undergoing surgery for an undisclosed ailment.
In a statement jointly signed by the Co-conveners, Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, Asma’u Joda and Celestine Okwudili Odo posted on his Facebook by Agbonsuremi Augustine Okhiria of African Independent Television (AIT) said, it was with deep shock they announced the demise of Esther Uzoma, who is also National Co-ordinator of Proactive Gender Initiative.
“Esther Uzoma died early in the morning on January 6, 2021 following a surgery at a hospital in Abuja.”
“Esther was very energetic and a committed human rights and gender activist and has been in the forefront of driving Nigeria’s democratic reforms.”
She will be solely missed by all who came in contact with her. The family will make further announcements on burial arrangements, the statement added.
It would be recalled that The Situation Room is made up of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working in support of credible and transparent elections in Nigeria numbering more than seventy.
