The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, has applauded the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its commitment to advancing women empowerment, skill acquisition, and community resilience.

In her commendation during a courtesy visit to the DEPOWA Secretariat in Abuja recently, Ms Mohammed discussed areas of collaboration to include women’s empowerment, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.

She was received by the President of DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa.

During a tour of the DEPOWA Skill Acquisition Centre, the UN Deputy Secretary-General interacted with students undergoing training in various trades. She praised the centre’s initiatives, noting that such programs not only empower women but also provide vital support systems for families while strengthening the fabric of society.

She also commended the association’s commitment to women empowerment and skills development, particularly through the DEPOWA Skill Acquisition Centre. Addressing the students, Ms. Mohammed described the initiative as a powerful tool for uplifting families and building a resilient society.

The President of DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa described the engagement as a moment of “deep alignment” with the United Nations, stressing that the association’s vision resonates with global goals of inclusivity, empowerment, and impact.

The visit underscored a shared resolve between the UN and DEPOWA to bring hope, uplift women, and build a more resilient society.

Her visit further strengthened collaboration between the UN and DEPOWA, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to inclusion, progress, and sustainable development.
