Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has urged the Defence Headquarters to expand the ongoing Operation Whirl Stroke to cover neighbouring states, stating that the move will enhance Nigeria’s fight against cross-border crimes.
Governor Kefas disclosed this on Monday in Jalingo while receiving the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, who was in Taraba on an assessment visit.
According to him, Operation Whirl Stroke has over the last seven years “tremendously assisted in tackling criminality within Taraba State.” He added that its extension to border states would “holistically combat cross-border crime and enhance national security.”

“Taraba today is relatively peaceful because of our deliberate investment in security,” the Governor stated. “But peace is fragile. To secure it, we must think beyond our borders. That is why I have also requested the deployment of a joint drone platoon with technological support to monitor our border areas.”
He reaffirmed that safeguarding lives and property will remain his administration’s top priority, while commending the troops of 6 Brigade for their resilience.
In his response, Major General Onumajuru said his mission was to evaluate the security situation in Taraba, review the performance of troops, and identify operational gaps.
“Sector 3 of the Nigerian Army was established to enhance security in this region,” he explained. “From what I have seen, Taraba has recorded significant improvements in security, thanks largely to the Governor’s support and cooperation.”

The Defence Chief Commended Dr. Kefas for providing logistics and morale support to the troops, noting that such collaboration has been critical to the successes achieved.
The visit culminated in the commissioning of new security assets, including eight AV armour trucks and four flying boats, jointly unveiled by Governor Kefas and Major General Onumajuru.
“These platforms will further sustain the fight against criminality across the state,” the Governor said, adding that Taraba remains committed to setting the pace in peace and stability.
