Katsina Police Command Arrests Notorious Lawan, Supplier of Arms to Bandits

Katsina Police Command has arrested one notorious bandit identified as Lawan Zayyana, 35, of Muduru village, Mani Local Government Area of Katsina state, who supplies arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest.

As a result, CP Buba says that the Command has recorded tremendous achievements in the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, trafficking in arms and ammunition and other forms of crimes and criminality as other sundry arrest of bandits and recovery of sophisticated arms have been made.

Disclosing the arrest on Monday in Katsina during a media briefing, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sanusi Buba said based on credible intelligence, the Command in addition, arrested his cohorts identified as: Haruna Yusuf, 47, of Sawarya village, Kaita LGA of Katsina state; Haruna Adamu, 35, and Auwal Abubakar, 28, both of Maduru village, Mani LGA of Katsina state.

The gang leader, Haruna Yusuf confessed that he usually receive the supply of arms and ammunition from Niger Republic and hands over to Lawan Zayyana, Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar who would, in turn, deliver the supply to bandits in the forest.

Giving details of their transactions, he confessed that they have sold over ten thousand arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest.

Reiterating, Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar confessed to have severally trafficked these arms and ammunition to bandits at Gurbi and Dan-Magaji areas in Zamfara state.

Among those arms recovered included two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), One LAR rifle and 179 Anti-Aircraft (AA) ammunition, the sum of 3,413,500 West African – CFA Franc were recovered in their possession.

However, the following suspected bandits including two biological sons of Haruna Yusuf, the notorious arms dealer were arrested in his house.

They include: Ibrahim Salisu, 20, of Sawarya village, Kaita LGA of Katsina state – Son to the arms dealer Shuaibu Haruna, 18, of the same address – also son of the arms dealer; Murtala Haruna, 20, of the same address – nephew of the arms dealer; Ibrahim Dabo, 19, of Natsinta village, Kandamau, Maradi, Niger Republic.

Others are Sambo Muhammadu, 22, Jibir Adamu, 20, Sani Ibrahim,  20, Yusufa Muhammadu,  28, Abubakar Muhammadu, 26, Abdullahi Dabo, 28, Murtala Ado, 20, Sani Muhammad, 29, Umar Bello, 28, all of Natsinta village, Kandamau, Maradi, Niger Republic.

Also arrested are: Basiru Usman, 18, of Tsanni village, Batagarawa LGA – brother to arms supplier – Lawan Zayyana; and Kamaradini Jafaru, 30, of Muduru village, Mani LGA of Katsina state.

Other items recovered from the possession of the suspected bandits included seven motorcycles comprising five Kasea and two Royal brands of motorcycles. Investigation is still ongoing.
