Nestlé Nigeria recently celebrated the graduation of twenty young trainees from its Nestlé Technical Training Center in Agbara, as part of its commitment to empowering youth and developing their skills.

This initiative is part of a global program called Nestlé Needs YOUth, which aims to help 10 million young people worldwide access economic opportunities by 2030.

The Agbara training center, established in 2011, has invested over ₦6 billion in equipping young Nigerians with technical and vocational skills in areas like food technology, engineering, and manufacturing operations.

By providing hands-on training, the program prepares participants for success in today’s industrial landscape, helping them secure employment and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.

The latest graduates completed an intensive 18-month curriculum that combines theoretical and practical engineering education, earning them a prestigious City and Guilds of London Technicians’ Certification. This certification enhances their employability both in Nigeria and internationally.

Since its inception, the training center has trained over 200 young professionals, with 95% of alumni finding employment at Nestlé Nigeria. The program has been highly successful, with graduates excelling in roles like Factory Engineer in Angola and Engineering and Production Supervisors.

Nestlé’s broader youth empowerment initiatives in Nigeria include programs like the Nesternship Program, which offers virtual internships, and the Nestlé Youth Development Program, providing training and mentorship for employability. Through these efforts, Nestlé reaches around 25,000 young people annually, helping them build fulfilling careers and contribute to community growth.

The program has received praise from the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) for its role in shaping future talent and providing valuable skills to young people. The Director-General of NECA encouraged the graduates to strive for excellence and make a positive impact in their chosen fields.

Overall, Nestlé’s Technical Training Centers play a crucial role in strengthening Nigeria’s industrial workforce, equipping young people with the skills needed to build sustainable careers and drive national growth. With its commitment to creating shared value and supporting communities, Nestlé continues to be a leader in the food and beverage industry in Africa.
