There was tragedy at Amunike Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State early on Thursday as a 65-year-old hunter identified as Uchechukwu Nweke shot his wife, son before killing himself with a single barrel gun.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Haruna Mohammed said that about 3am today, January 28, 2021, there was a report from the Chairman Vigilantee group that one Uchechukwu Nweke allegedly shot his wife Patricia Nweke, 55, with a single barrel gun and also burnt his house along with his son identified as Obinna Nweke, 29, in a yet to be ascertained reason.
After killing the entire family, the suspect was said to have equally shot himself using the same single barrel gun.
As a result, police detectives attached to Achalla Police Station have visited the scene and rushed victims to Uche Hospital, Isuanocha for medical attention where all the three victims were certified dead by a medical doctor on arrival.
Meanwhile, the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy while investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
