Nigeria and global technology giant Google are advancing their landmark partnership to position the country as a leading AI and digital hub in West and Central Africa, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s historic meeting with Google CEO, Sundar Pichai in Paris.
The collaboration gained fresh momentum during a two-day workshop held on May 6–7, 2025, which brought together government leaders, industry experts, and technology stakeholders to validate key frameworks and practical business use cases for the partnership.
Anchored on President Tinubu’s vision to drive economic diversification and inclusive growth, the partnership is structured around five core pillars:
- Building scalable digital infrastructure;
- Empowering the workforce with digital skills;
- Driving AI innovation and research;
- Promoting cloud adoption for digital government; and
- Strengthening investment frameworks for digital growth.
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), under the President’s directive, is leading the execution of this ambitious agenda and working closely with Google to shape the practical rollout.
At the workshop, NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, also led a series of high-level engagements with top government officials, including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji; and Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. The discussions focused on aligning stakeholders across government to adopt digital technologies that will enhance governance, service delivery, and economic growth.
Google showcased successful digital interventions from around the world, illustrating how similar initiatives could boost Nigeria’s economic stability, institutional efficiency, and citizen empowerment.
Speaking on the collaboration, Inuwa reaffirmed that Nigeria is laying the foundation for a more inclusive, innovative, and prosperous digital future:
“With this partnership, Nigeria is not just adopting technology, but shaping it to drive transformation in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and beyond,” he said.
The Nigeria–Google partnership marks a decisive step in leveraging digital transformation as a catalyst for long-term economic prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
