
The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a multi-million-naira Special Intervention Project in Akunu-Akoko, Ondo State, in honour of Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Morakinyo Olotu.
The project, according to the force, comprises residential accommodation for doctors attached to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Annex, Akunu, which was executed to enhance healthcare delivery in the community and its environs.
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, was represented by the Chief Staff Officer, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Dantsoho Ibrahim, who commended Rear Admiral Olotu for his initiative, describing the project as a strong symbol of civil-military cooperation.
Representing the Ondo State Government, Air Commodore Benson Omoyugho (retd), who stood in for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, lauded the Nigerian Navy’s intervention and assured that the state government would ensure prompt staffing and equipping of the facility.
In his remarks, Rear Admiral Olotu appreciated the Chief of the Naval Staff for approving the project under the Navy’s Special Intervention Programme, noting that similar projects are ongoing in other parts of the country.

He explained that the Akunu project was conceived to provide accommodation for doctors and other medical personnel, while urging both federal and state authorities to deploy staff to the FMC Annex to make it fully operational.
In his goodwill message, the Oluwade of Akunu-Akoko, His Royal Majesty Oba Olufemi Bankole Saba (Ajiho III), commended the Nigerian Navy and Rear Admiral Olotu for their foresight and contribution to community development.
Similarly, Dr Ayeyemi Aje, representing the Chief Medical Director of FMC Owo, disclosed that medical services would commence at the facility before the end of November.
The ceremony, which attracted senior naval officers, government officials, community leaders, and residents, further underscored the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to promoting development and strengthening partnerships with host communities across the nation.
