ANAMBRA ELECTION: POLICE WARNS AGAINST USE OF VEHICLES WITHOUT PLATE NUMBERS

Admin October 23, 2025
Anambra Police Command

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a strong warning against the indiscriminate use of vehicles without number plates or with covered registration numbers across the state, ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, said the Command would not tolerate any violations of this directive, describing the practice as a serious security risk capable of undermining ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

According to the Commissioner, unregistered or obscured vehicles are often exploited by criminal elements to perpetrate offences, evade detection, or disrupt public peace. He stressed that any vehicle found operating without proper identification would be impounded, while offenders would face prosecution under existing laws.

In a bid to ensure full compliance, the Commissioner directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to intensify patrols and conduct thorough stop-and-search operations across the state.

In a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by obeying traffic and safety regulations, and by reporting suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station. Members of the public can also reach the Command through its emergency lines — 112 or 07039194332.

The statement reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election.
