The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media that allegedly shows a group of young boys conducting a cult initiation ritual involving a minor.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command intercepted the disturbing footage and has begun efforts to verify its authenticity, determine where the incident occurred, and identify those involved.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the incident may have taken place within a community in Anambra State. The Command described the acts depicted in the video as criminal and morally reprehensible, especially given the involvement of a minor.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter and directed the Anti-Cultism Squad, Juvenile Welfare Unit, and the State Intelligence Department to collaborate in uncovering the details of the incident.
The CP condemned all forms of child abuse, indoctrination, or forced initiation, warning that such acts would not be tolerated in the state. He appealed to members of the public to assist the police with credible information that could aid the investigation.
Residents can share information through emergency lines 112, 07039194332, or by contacting the Public Relations Officer directly at 08039334002. The police assured that the identities of informants will be protected and that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to safeguarding children and maintaining public order, CP Orutugu called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that may endanger minors.
“The Command remains firmly committed to protecting children, combating cultism, and ensuring peace and safety across the state,” the statement added.
