…LT GEN OLUYEDE BECOMES NEW CDS

The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked all the Service Chiefs of the military.

The sweeping sack of the military high Command, on Friday, 24th October, 2025, by the President Tinubu was disclosed in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President
Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, and their appointments is with immediate effect.

The new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is Lt General Olufemi Oluyede, former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who replaces General Christopher Gwabin Musa.

The new Chief of Army Staff is Major General W. Shaibu. Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke is Chief of Air Staff (CAS), replaces Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), and replaces Vice Admiral Okechukwu Emmanuel Ogalla.

However, the Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position.

Although the reasons for their sack was not disclosed but fingers are pointing to the rumoured coup, which the military command debunked despite confirming some high profile officers have been arrested for indiscipline.

Again, some analysts are of the view that it might be connected with the security slump, leading to spiralling attacks on some military locations and the effrontery of terrorists sects, bandits and the nuisance value of kidnappers.

However, some said that the changes in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs is normal meant to reboot efforts of the federal government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture.

The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, and dedicated leadership.

The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
