As part of ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, continued his election peace-building advocacy with a visit to Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

During the visit, CP Orutugu paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Igwe Uzo Alexander Onyido, the Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom, where he emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and promoting civic responsibility during elections.

The Police Commissioner urged the monarch and community leaders to continue mobilizing residents toward peaceful participation, while discouraging political thuggery and acts capable of disrupting public order. He also encouraged community members to promptly report any suspicious activities that may threaten security before, during, or after the November 8 governorship election.

Responding, Igwe Onyido commended the Police Commissioner for his proactive engagement with stakeholders, assuring him of the Palace’s full cooperation in promoting peace and community vigilance. The monarch also appealed to youths and political actors in Ogidi and its environs to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid actions that could undermine the peace of the community.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, CP Orutugu later held a closed-door meeting with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and addressed officers and men of the Ogidi Area Command Headquarters. He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism and neutrality in the discharge of its duties, stressing that the Force’s primary responsibility is to secure the electoral space and protect the rights of all citizens, not to influence electoral outcomes.

He further disclosed that security agencies across Anambra State are working in synergy to guarantee a peaceful pre-election environment, safe voting atmosphere, and stable post-election period.

The Police Commissioner also met with local security stakeholders, including the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka, Vigilante Operatives, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Presidents-General of communities, and other leaders.

The stakeholders commended the Command’s continuous outreach and pledged their support for credible, violence-free elections. They also promised improved intelligence sharing and coordinated community security efforts.

Reassuring residents, CP Orutugu stated that adequate personnel deployments, surveillance operations, and rapid response units have been activated across all Local Government Areas in the state. He urged Ndi Anambra to remain law-abiding and reject any calls to violence, stressing that peace and stability in the state remain a collective responsibility.
