The Nigerian Armed Forces have announced the appointment of Major General E.O. Agbebaku as the new Chief of Defence Communications, a strategic position responsible for coordinating communications systems across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The appointment, which came as part of a wider redeployment involving 56 major generals in late October 2025, underscores the Defence Headquarters’ commitment to enhancing synergy and technological integration among the services.
Major General Agbebaku, who was promoted to the rank of Major General in December 2023, is widely recognized for his professional excellence and innovative approach to military communications. Until his latest appointment, he served at the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC), where he played a key role in advancing the Army’s research, development, and technology modernization agenda.
In July 2024, Agbebaku led a delegation from the NAHFC to the University of Port Harcourt to explore collaborations in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, reflecting his strong interest in leveraging emerging technologies for defence applications.
He succeeds Major General S.O. Bashir in the role.
As Chief of Defence Communications, Major General Agbebaku is expected to spearhead initiatives that will further strengthen the nation’s defence communication systems, improve inter-service coordination, and drive innovation across the armed forces.
His appointment has been widely commended within military and defence circles as a fitting recognition of his dedication, integrity, and service to the nation.
