The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a six-member child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos States, successfully rescuing a three-year-old boy who had been reported missing in Anambra.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed that the operation followed a petition filed on September 4, 2025, by the child’s family, which detailed how the victim’s mother had left her three-year-old son in the care of one Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno, only to return and discover that both the caregiver and her child were missing.
Responding swiftly, operatives attached to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, launched a full-scale investigation that led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Samuel Ibe. His confession subsequently resulted in the arrest of his mother, Agatha Ejeweh (35), and his younger brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera (15).
Further intelligence-driven operations extended to Enugu State, where Angela Eze (30) was apprehended for collaborating with another suspect, Juliet Onah, in facilitating the illegal transfer of the stolen child to Lagos. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives tracked the trail to Lagos State, where China Cosmas was arrested and the child was rescued safely.
The boy has since been reunited with his family in good health, while all six suspects remain in police custody pending arraignment in court upon conclusion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, minps, PhD, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property in Anambra State. He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stressing that “Anambra remains unsafe for any form of criminal enterprise.”
