The Edo State Ministry of Youth Affairs has expressed readiness to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in tackling social vices, particularly internet fraud, among young people in the state.

The Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Charity Amayaevbo, made the call on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

He was received by the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad.

Amayaevbo emphasized that collaboration between the state government and the EFCC was necessary to channel the creativity, energy, and intelligence of youths into positive and productive ventures.

“We believe that working with the EFCC will help redirect the energy of our youths towards legitimate opportunities. We are focusing on preventive measures rather than being reactionary,” the Commissioner said.

He disclosed that the Ministry was already planning a series of town hall meetings to enlighten young people on the potential of the digital space and how they can leverage social media for legitimate and rewarding enterprises.

“We are looking forward to having you or your representatives participate in these engagements with the youths,” he added.

In his response, DCE Sa’ad commended the initiative, describing it as timely and in line with the EFCC’s preventive approach to combating financial and cybercrimes.

“We believe strongly in collaboration, which is one of our core values, alongside integrity, professionalism, and courage. Every action we take at the EFCC is guided by these values and established procedures,” Sa’ad stated.

He further explained that under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Commission has intensified public sensitization efforts as part of its strategy to address the root causes of economic crimes and protect Nigeria’s reputation globally.

“The EFCC Chairman is passionate about the welfare and future of Nigerian youths. These sensitization campaigns are aimed at helping them make better choices while also improving the country’s image,” he said.

The meeting, both parties agreed, marks the beginning of a stronger partnership aimed at promoting positive youth engagement and curbing the rising trend of internet fraud and related offences in Edo State.
