ODODO WARNS AGAINST INCITEMENT, SAYS KOGI WON’T TOLERATE MALICIOUS POLITICAL PROPAGANDA

ODODO WARNS AGAINST INCITEMENT

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has cautioned residents against circulating malicious and inflammatory content that could incite political tension or undermine public trust in government institutions.

The governor issued the warning on Sunday in Lokoja after receiving a security briefing on a viral video allegedly sponsored to malign prominent political figures within and outside the state.

Describing the development as “politics taken too far,” Ododo said the matter was already under investigation, with security agencies interrogating those believed to be involved.

“We will not accept this. Some individuals are deliberately attempting to create crisis by spreading falsehoods aimed at damaging relationships among leaders,” he said.

Ododo specifically refuted claims suggesting friction between former Governor Yahaya Bello and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that both leaders enjoy a cordial working relationship. He condemned the alleged smear campaign as “desperation taken to dangerous heights,” warning that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.

“The President is working tirelessly to fix this nation, yet there are selfish individuals using our people to push hate narratives,” he stated. “Nigerians, especially Kogites, must not allow themselves to be used to malign anyone’s image.”

The governor urged parents, community leaders, and elders to advise young people against participating in smear campaigns, especially as political seasons often embolden actors who manipulate social media platforms to mislead the public.

Ododo reiterated that his administration relies on the rule of law—not thuggery—to address misconduct. He said security agencies have been directed to apprehend individuals sponsoring hate speech and politically motivated misinformation.

“As a responsible child, if your father is being insulted, you don’t repeat it,” he added, criticizing politicians who shared the controversial video.

He assured residents that due legal processes would be followed to ensure that the peace and stability of Kogi State are not threatened by misinformation or divisive political propaganda.
