The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled an attempted kidnapping in Guto, a border community in Bwari Area Council, following a late-night exchange of gunfire that left one police officer dead.
The incident occurred at about 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday when the Command received a distress call that about 30 armed men had invaded the community and attempted to break into a residence to abduct the occupants.
Police operatives from the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team, supported by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS), swiftly mobilised to the scene.

According to the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the armed suspects opened fire on sighting the responding officers, prompting a fierce gun duel. Two of the attackers were killed in the confrontation, while others escaped into nearby bushes and mountainous terrain.
One police officer sustained a gunshot wound during the exchange and was rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The Command described the fallen officer as a dedicated operative who died in active service.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, commended the professionalism and bravery displayed by the personnel involved in the operation, noting that their swift response prevented what could have been a tragic mass abduction. He also offered condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased officer.
The CP assured residents that intensified security operations will continue across the FCT to clamp down on criminal networks. He praised the vigilance of Guto community members and encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious movements or emergencies.
The Command urged the public to use its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
