The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the deployment of robust and proactive security measures aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country during the Christmas festivities.

In a statement issued on Sunday, by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General M. E. Onoja, the DHQ disclosed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in close collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified operations in identified vulnerable areas nationwide to prevent any form of attack during the festive period.

According to the statement, additional troops have been deployed to strategic locations and major routes, while special forces units and air support elements have been placed on high alert to guarantee rapid response to any emerging security threats.

The military also revealed that surveillance operations have been significantly enhanced, including aerial monitoring and intelligence-gathering activities, to track the movement and communication of suspected criminal elements. Unit commanders have been directed to strengthen patrols, establish fortified checkpoints, and maintain close collaboration with community leaders, local vigilante groups, and state security outfits.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces to national security, the DHQ assured Nigerians that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that citizens enjoy a peaceful, safe and joyous Christmas celebration.

“The security and stability of our nation remain our top priority, and every effort is being made to ensure that Nigerians celebrate the festive season in peace, unity and joy,” the statement read.

The Defence Headquarters also emphasized the importance of public cooperation in achieving sustained security, urging citizens to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation. It assured that all security-related information provided by members of the public would be treated with urgency and confidentiality.

The statement further conveyed the goodwill message of the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede, who wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year ahead.

The DHQ called on the media and the general public to disseminate the information widely in support of ongoing security efforts across the country.
