The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office, has flagged off Operation Eagle Eye 2025 at Giri Junction along the Abuja–Lokoja Federal Highway, as part of coordinated efforts to enhance road safety, improve traffic management and ensure rapid emergency response during the Yuletide season.
The operation was formally declared open on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, by the Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Dr. Onimode Bandele. The flag-off ceremony was hosted by the Abuja Operations Office in collaboration with NEMA Headquarters and attended by key stakeholders in emergency management and road safety.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bandele conveyed the Director-General’s commitment to proactive disaster risk reduction and strengthened inter-agency collaboration. He described Operation Eagle Eye as a critical annual initiative designed to safeguard lives and property during periods of increased vehicular movement, particularly along major highways.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Head of the Abuja Operations Office, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, highlighted the importance of the operation in complementing the statutory responsibilities of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). He noted that the Abuja–Lokoja corridor is one of the busiest highways during the festive period, making enhanced vigilance, coordination and preparedness imperative.

The programme also featured remarks by the Director of Search and Rescue at NEMA Headquarters, Air Commodore Usman Bature, as well as goodwill messages from representatives of participating agencies, including the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society. The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to seamless collaboration throughout the operation.
Highlights of the event included an inspection of emergency response and extrication equipment to assess operational readiness, followed by a joint patrol by participating agencies along critical sections of the highway, signalling the immediate commencement of field operations.
Operation Eagle Eye 2025 is aimed at supporting traffic control, preventing road traffic crashes and ensuring prompt rescue and emergency response throughout the festive season. Road users were advised to comply strictly with traffic regulations, avoid speeding and reckless driving, and cooperate with officials on duty to ensure a safe and hitch-free Yuletide celebration.
