The Anambra State Police Command has reminded traders, business owners and residents across the state to observe strict fire safety measures during the festive season and the ongoing harmattan period.
The police warned that dry weather conditions and strong winds associated with harmattan significantly increase the risk of fire outbreaks, especially in markets, shops, warehouses and residential areas.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that in a safety alert issued by the Command, traders and residents were advised to handle electrical appliances with care, avoid the use of naked flames and ensure that power sources are switched off when not in use.
The Command also encouraged the availability of fire extinguishers and other basic firefighting equipment where possible.
The Police further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any fire outbreak, emergency or suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Anambra State Police Command assured residents of its readiness to protect lives and property across the state throughout the festive season and beyond.
