The Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, has conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, in recognition of his contributions to governance and societal development.
The honour was bestowed on the governor on Saturday during the university’s joint maiden convocation ceremony held at the University Convocation Arena in Aliero, Kebbi State.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that Governor Lawal was selected and confirmed for the prestigious award by the university’s Senate.
According to the statement, the Kebbi State-owned institution conferred on Governor Lawal the Doctor of Science (D.Sc), Honoris Causa, citing his distinguished service and notable achievements across key sectors, including education, healthcare delivery, infrastructure development, economic growth, and workers’ welfare in Zamfara State.

The university noted that the honorary degree reflects its commitment to recognising individuals whose leadership and service have made meaningful and lasting impacts on society.
The statement further quoted the university as saying that the recognition would serve as encouragement for the governor to intensify efforts toward advancing development and improving the lives of citizens in Zamfara State.
The maiden convocation activities commenced on Wednesday with a press briefing by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Danshehu Bagudu Gwandangaji, who also highlighted the institution’s academic milestones.
Professor Gwandangaji revealed that since its establishment in 2005, the university has produced 7,221 undergraduate graduates and 669 postgraduate graduates between the 2010/2011 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.
The convocation ceremony marked a historic milestone for the institution and underscored its growing role in promoting academic excellence and national development.
