The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a masquerade involved in unprovoked and violent attacks on residents of Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said the actions of the masquerade, which were captured in a viral video currently circulating on social media, led to a breach of public peace and posed a serious threat to innocent citizens.
The Police described the conduct as unlawful and unacceptable, stressing that such acts will not be tolerated under any guise or cultural cover.
According to the statement, the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all other persons connected to the incident.
The Command assured residents of Anambra State of its commitment to maintaining law and order, noting that further developments in the case will be communicated as investigations progress.
