POLICE OFFICER DEPLOYED

Heavy protests paralysed activities in the Ota area of Ogun state on Wednesday, 14th January, 2026, following the killing of a young man identified as Onuchukwu Chika Festus by a police officer attached to the company where the deceased works.

The incident happened at the premises of the company: Aarti Rolls Mills Limited.

It was learnt that the killing of Chika on Monday forced the staff of the company and well-wishers of the deceased to stage a peaceful protest in front of the company premises, demanding justice.

Investigation revealed that the trigger happy police man was detailed to guard the company from the department of Operations at Police headquarters, Eleweran in Ogun state.

It was gathered that a team of Police men from the Sango Ota division had visited the company with a view to arresting the deceased, but unfortunately, he was said to be out of the office.

As a result, the police from Sango Ota mandated the policeman on duty at the company to alert them or assist in arresting the deceased when he got to the office.

However, when Chika got to the office, the policeman who, it was gathered, was paid to arrest him, opened fire on him; a development that attracted other workers, only to meet his lifeless body in a pool of blood.

However, the matter was reported at Onipan police station, which is nearest to the company, and the killer policeman was promptly arrested while the corpse was taken to the morgue for further investigation.

At the moment, the trigger-happy policeman has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran for further investigation.

Chika, the deceased, it was learnt, hails from Isseke town in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. As a result, the Eze Ndigbo of Ado Odo Ota, Eze Dr. Paul Okonkwo Agbasiere sent his personal Assistant, High Chief Igwe Anthony Okafor, to the scene of the protest to calm them and allow the police to carry out their investigation and bring the culprit to book for the sake of justice.

When our correspondent spoke to the elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Ogechi Onuchukwu, he was in shock because the brother had worked with the company for over 20 years without blemish and wondered why a policeman sent to protect the office where he works would kill him without provocation.

Reacting, the Eze Ndigbo of Ado Odo Ota, Ogun state, Eze Paul Okonkwo Agbasiere called the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogulowo to probe the incident.
