The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu has assured students and staffs of Holy Child College, Ikoyi-Lagos of adequate security.
He gave the assurance on Friday during a familiarization tour to units and formations under 81 Division within Lagos Island.
The GOC maintained that in view of the current security realities in the country, there is the need for everyone to be proactive and not reactive.
He said on his part, he would ensure adequate security is provided for the College as part of the effort of the NA to ensure safety of educational institutions in the country.
Major General Fejokwu noted that the kidnapping of students in recent time has necessitated the need for proactiveness of everyone.
Speaking further, he reiterated that although kidnapping of male students often generates alarm, however the kidnapping of female students generates more alarm.
To this end, he promised to circulate phone directories of nearest units and formations of the NA that could be reached during periods of emergencies, adding that it would just be about putting a call through to the NA units and formations whenever anything is suspected that could breach security.
The Administrator of the Holy Child College, Reverend Sister Antoinette Opara while receiving the GOC 81 Division expressed delight over the visit.
According to her the visit alone was an assurance that the College is now safer as she can always reach out to the GOC if there is any emergency, adding that the College is for girls only and that is why adequate measures are needed to guarantee security in the College.
Highlights of the visit of the GOC 81 Division to Holy Child College included presentation of a bouquet of flower by one of the students to the GOC, tour of the College and group photograph with staff and student of the College.
