The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the Swiss Government have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, with renewed focus on non-kinetic approaches to security, peacebuilding and humanitarian engagement.
This assurance was given on Thursday when the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Patrick Felix Egloff, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Egloff reiterated Switzerland’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and defence relations with Nigeria. He noted that Switzerland is particularly interested in supporting non-kinetic security initiatives, including humanitarian interventions, dialogue-driven engagements and programmes aimed at promoting sustainable peace and stability.

The ambassador emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between both countries, especially in addressing the underlying causes of insecurity through development support, institutional partnerships and inclusive peacebuilding strategies.
In his response, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede, welcomed the Swiss envoy and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s continued interest in Nigeria’s security and stability.
General Oluyede acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to non-kinetic efforts in the country, noting that such partnerships play a critical role in complementing ongoing military operations.
He expressed optimism that the existing relationship between Nigeria and Switzerland would be further strengthened, leading to more impactful outcomes in areas of mutual interest, particularly peacebuilding, humanitarian cooperation and strategic defence engagement.
According to the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the meeting underscores the shared commitment of both nations to constructive engagement and collaborative, non-kinetic approaches to contemporary security challenges.
