The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, has conducted an extensive operational tour of security deployments within and around the University of Abuja as part of proactive measures to strengthen safety and deter criminal activities in the institution.

According to the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the operational inspection, carried out on January 29, 2026, focused on assessing existing security arrangements, evaluating personnel readiness, and reinforcing policing strategies across critical points within the university environment.

During the tour, the Commissioner inspected officers deployed at strategic locations, including campus perimeters and surrounding hills identified as potential security flashpoints. He commended the personnel for their dedication and resilience in safeguarding lives and property, while charging them to remain vigilant, proactive and professional in the discharge of their duties.

CP Dantawaye emphasised that the safety of educational institutions remains a priority for the FCT Police Command, noting that sustained visibility policing and intelligence-led operations are essential to preventing criminal infiltration of academic environments.

As part of the visit, the Commissioner paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi. Both leaders engaged in detailed discussions on the prevailing security situation on campus and explored strategies for strengthening the institution’s existing security architecture.

The engagement, according to police authorities, focused on enhancing collaboration between the university management and security agencies to ensure the safety of students, staff and university assets.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment, CP Dantawaye assured the university community of adequate deployment of personnel and operational resources to ensure swift response to any security threats.

Meanwhile, residents of the Federal Capital Territory have been urged to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons or activities through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
