Nigeria’s growing influence in the global fight against financial crime has received another boost with the emergence of Dr Nnanyelugo M. X. Aham-Anyanwu, a senior officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), as Vice Chair of the Egmont Group’s Information Exchange Working Group (IEWG).
Aham-Anyanwu, who currently serves as Head of the Technology Platforms Department at the NFIU, was elected into the strategic leadership position following years of active contribution to the IEWG and other Egmont Group initiatives focused on strengthening global financial intelligence sharing.

The Information Exchange Working Group is one of the Egmont Group’s most critical pillars, driving secure and effective information sharing among over 182 Financial Intelligence Units worldwide. Dr Aham-Anyanwu’s emergence into its leadership underscores Nigeria’s rising profile in the deployment of technology-driven solutions against money laundering, terrorism financing and other financial crimes.
A seasoned technology professional and intelligence analyst, Dr Aham-Anyanwu brings a rare blend of private-sector, academic and public-sector experience. At the NFIU, he has led the development and management of several mission-critical platforms, including the Crime Records Information Management System (CRIMS), RapidAML, the Data Management Framework Portal, and the Integrated Analytics Tool Project, all aimed at enhancing analytical depth and inter-agency cooperation.

His work has significantly strengthened information exchange between the NFIU and its domestic and international stakeholders, positioning Nigeria as a reference point for innovation within the Egmont community.
Since 2022, Dr Aham-Anyanwu has been an active contributor to key IEWG projects. He has also served as a speaker at Egmont plenaries and working group meetings, sharing Nigeria’s experience in leveraging technology to break data silos and uncover complex financial crime networks.
