The Committee of Retired Inspectors-General of Police has paid a solidarity visit to the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the Louis Edet House, Abuja, reaffirming unity and continuity within the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on February 17, 2026, the meeting brought together members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police and other senior officers.
Retired IGPs present at the meeting including Aliyu Attah, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Suleiman Abba, and Mohammed Dikko Abubakar.
In his address, Egbetokun outlined reforms achieved in the past two years, including upgrading the Intelligence Unit to a Department, elevating the Legal and Medical Units to Directorates, expanding Police Mobile Force Squadrons from 74 to 84, creating new Area Commands and Divisions, and establishing a Special Intervention Squad to enhance operational response.
He further emphasised merit-based promotions, noting that over 141,000 officers have been advanced, alongside the introduction of compulsory ethics training to strengthen professionalism across the Force.
Responding on behalf of the retired IGPs, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar commended the Inspector-General’s reform efforts, encouraged him to sustain the momentum, and called on officers of the Force to support the ongoing transformation initiatives.
The meeting underscored collaboration across generations of police leadership, reflecting a shared commitment to building a modern, trusted and capable Nigeria Police Force.
